PROCEDURE TEXT



A. Pengertian (Definition)

What is a procedure text?

A procedure is a text that explains how people make or do something step by step.


B. Tujuan (Social Function/Purpose)

Tujuan komunikatif dari teks prosedur adalah:

To explain/tell (the reader) how to make, operate, or do something through a sequence of actions or steps.

(Untuk menjelaskan kepada pembaca cara membuat, mengoperasikan, atau melakukan sesuatu melalui serangkaian tindakan atau langkah-langkah).

C. Struktur Umum (Generic Structure)

Sebuah teks prosedur umumnya memiliki tiga bagian utama:

  • Goal / Aim (Tujuan)

Menjelaskan apa yang akan dibuat atau dilakukan.

Biasanya terdapat pada judul teks.

Contoh: How to Make a Cup of Coffee, How to Use a Blender.

  • Materials / Ingredients (Bahan-bahan atau Alat)

Berisi daftar bahan (ingredients) atau alat (materials/tools) yang dibutuhkan.

Bagian ini tidak selalu ada. Terkadang, alat dan bahanSw disebutkan langsung di dalam langkah-langkah.

Examples/Contoh:

Ingredients: two spoons of sugar, one spoon of coffee powder, hot water.

Materials: a cup, a spoon, a computer, a printer.

  • Steps / Method (Langkah-langkah)

Berisi serangkaian instruksi atau langkah yang harus dilakukan secara berurutan.

Bagian ini adalah inti dari teks prosedur.

Contoh: First, boil the water. Then, put the coffee powder into the cup.

D. Ciri Kebahasaan (Language Features)

Teks prosedur memiliki ciri-ciri kebahasaan yang khas, antara lain:

Menggunakan Simple Present Tense.

Karena instruksi bersifat umum dan tidak terikat waktu. 

Contoh: You **need** two eggs., **Mix** the flour.

Menggunakan Imperative Sentences (Kalimat Perintah).

Kalimat yang diawali dengan kata kerja (Verb 1).

Contoh: **Cut** the onion., **Pour** the water., **Turn on** the computer.

Menggunakan Action Verbs (Kata Kerja Aksi).

Kata kerja yang menunjukkan tindakan fisik.

Contoh: mix (mencampur), cut (memotong), stir (mengaduk), plug (mencolokkan).

Menggunakan Temporal Conjunctions / Connectives (Kata Penghubung Urutan).

Kata yang menghubungkan satu langkah dengan langkah berikutnya.

Contoh: first, second, then, next, after that, finally.

Menggunakan Adverbs of Manner (Kata Keterangan Cara).

Untuk menjelaskan bagaimana sebuah tindakan dilakukan.

Contoh: stir **slowly** (aduk perlahan), chop **finely** (cincang halus).


E. An example of a procedure:


How to Make a Glass of Pineapple Juice

  1. ‌First, cut up a pineapple.
  2. Then, put the pineapple into the blender.
  3. ‌Pour a half glass of water into the blender. 
  4. Add a spoonful of sugar.
  5. Add some ice cubes into the blender.
  6. Turn on the blender. Wait for several minutes.
  7. ‌Now, your juice is ready to serve.

HOW TO OPERATE A PHOTOCOPIER

  1. Press the "power" button to turn on the photocopier. If there is no response from the device, try to press the "copy" button. It may be turned to "sleep" mode. Check the paper tray that is located on the side of the machine to ensure that the copier has enough paper in it.
  2. Lift the photocopier's lid. Then, put your document on the glass surface Put the side that you want to copy downward, facing the glass surface.
  3. Close the copier cover after you are sure the document has been placed properly.
  4. Press the digital number to select the number of copies you need. Press the plus and minus button to add or reduce the quantity.
  5. Choose black-and-white copies or colour copies according to your needs.
  6. After selecting the colour preference, specify the paper size. If you want to use special paper size, you have to feed that paper into the tray.
  7. Finally, press the "copy" button and your document is copied.

A. Tujuan Pembelajaran

Setelah mengikuti pembelajaran ini, siswa diharapkan mampu:

  1. Mengidentifikasi fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan pada ungkapan memberi selamat (congratulations).

  2. Membedakan penggunaan ungkapan selamat dalam konteks formal dan informal.

  3. Merespons ucapan selamat dengan benar.

  4. Menyusun teks dialog sederhana yang berisi ungkapan memberi selamat dan responsnya.


B. Materi Pembelajaran

1. Pengertian (Definition)

  • Congratulation adalah ungkapan atau ucapan yang kita berikan kepada seseorang untuk menunjukkan rasa senang atau bahagia atas pencapaian, prestasi, atau momen bahagia yang mereka raih.

  • Contohnya: memenangkan kompetisi, lulus ujian, mendapatkan pekerjaan baru, menikah, atau berulang tahun.

2. Fungsi Sosial (Social Function)

  • Untuk memberikan apresiasi atau penghargaan atas prestasi seseorang.

  • Untuk menjaga hubungan baik dan menunjukkan kepedulian kepada orang lain.

  • Untuk ikut merasakan kebahagiaan yang dirasakan orang lain.

3. Struktur dan Unsur Kebahasaan (Structure and Language Features)

Struktur umum dalam sebuah percakapan memberi selamat adalah:

  • Memberi Selamat (Giving Congratulation): Memulai dengan ungkapan selamat.

  • Menyebutkan Prestasi (Mentioning the Achievement): Menyebutkan secara spesifik pencapaian yang diraih.

  • Memberi Harapan/Pujian (Giving Hopes/Compliments): Seringkali diikuti dengan harapan baik untuk masa depan atau pujian.

  • Merespons (Responding): Orang yang diberi selamat akan mengucapkan terima kasih.
